Rating: 3.5/5THE OPTIMISTNew Young Pony Club, LiberatorNew Young Pony Club were set to be the "next big thing". In 2007 they were signed to Modular Records, had a string of underground hits and their debut album was going to make them bigger than god. It didn't quite work out like that. The album limped into the charts, the London scene they were part of scattered to the winds and they soon found themselves relegated to also-ran status. Now they're back with a new LP, a more mature sound and another shot at the title. While the indie/dance blueprint remains, they've ditched the nonchalance, written some genuine pop songs and added a layer of depth to their material. Basically, they've grown up, and this LP is much better for it.Key track Stone showcases the darker undertones and vastly improved songwriting found on The Optimist.
